A Celebration of Inspiration and Sharing,

On Sunday, November 10, we held the “My Recommended Person” event, where participants gathered to share stories about people who inspire them. The session was both rewarding and heartwarming, providing a platform to meet, share, and inspire one another.

The event highlighted diverse perspectives, personal stories, and valuable discussions, making it a memorable experience. Here’s a glimpse into the inspiring figures introduced during the session and why they were chosen:

Inspiring Figures Shared by Participants

  • Taylor Swift
    A participant who became a fan in 2007 admires Taylor’s consistency, resilience, and touching lyrics. The song “You Are On Your Own, Kid” resonated deeply, echoing the participant’s experience of living alone in Japan.

    • Discussion Highlight:
    Questions included Taylor’s popularity among youth in Bangladesh and the participant’s favorite Taylor Swift song (“How Did It End”).
  • Satowa (Participant’s Sister)
    A 24-year-old studying art history and working at an art museum, also OBOG of GIC, Satowa’s passion for traditional Japanese art, such as works by Takeuchi Seihō, has inspired her family to explore the arts.

    • Discussion Highlight: Satowa’s insights on what attracts her to specific pieces and her favorite artists.
  • Kumon’s “Dream Grandpa”
    Professor Akihiro Chiba, whose nickname is “Dream Jichan,” has been supporting GNT Activities, especially for English Immersion Camp, for many years. Celebrated for his vision and passion, he supported the launch of Kumon in Vietnam, striving for world peace despite political challenges.

    • Discussion Highlight: Participants appreciated learning about his legacy and expressed interest in reading his book.
  • Lee Kuan Yew; Singapore’s former Prime Minister, admired for transforming Singapore into a thriving and orderly society, often referred to as a ‘FINE’ country.
  • Karlie Kloss; A model and philanthropist recognized for her charitable initiatives, including “Klossy’s Cookies.”
  • Dumbledore (from Harry Potter), and Dumble-Maza (from GNT); Admired for his leadership qualities, respect for others’ opinions, and ability to see the bigger picture.
  • Inamori Kazuo; Founder of Kyocera and AU, appreciated for his innovative spirit and contributions to business and society.

Takeaways and Future Aspirations

Participants expressed a desire to continue the discussions and even meet in person someday for a “Kumon Nomikai.” The session sparked curiosity and inspired actions, such as revisiting fitness goals, exploring new art, and adopting successful habits from the recommended figures.
