“My Recommended Book” Event

1+

The first event out of three sessions for our NEW online program this year called [My Recommended Book, Places to visit, People] was held recently. It was attended by past English Immersion Camp (EIC), which is now been renamed as Global Immersion Camp (GIC), participants (campers), camp leaders and camp staff. Below is the report of the event.

Date: June 16, 2024 (Sun)
Location: Online (Zoom)
Participants: 24 people from 8 different countries

The “My Recommended Book” event was a great success! We had 24 participants from eight different countries. Everyone shared interesting book recommendations, and not only the participants had fun discussed about them but also inspired and motivated listening to the members in their group. Below are the comments we received from the participants who attended the 90 minutes session.

Comments from the participants

  • 1. Fun Discussions:
    – Participants shared their favorite books and explained why they liked them.
    – We heard about many different kinds of books, including motivational books and stories about different cultures.
  • 2. Feedback from Participants:
    – One participant loved the event but wished for more time in small groups to talk about the books in detail. As a university student, they found motivational books especially helpful.
    – Another participant also enjoyed hearing about everyone’s different interests and agreed that more time for discussion would be great.
  • 3. Event Timing:
    – Some participants suggested having the event at different times, like Saturday evenings or Sunday mornings or evenings, to better fit their schedules.
  • 4. Event Organization
    – Some participants wanted more information about the participants’ English levels to help everyone share more easily.
    – One participant thought focusing on fewer books would allow for deeper discussions and that sharing book titles and reasons beforehand would be helpful.
  • 5. Participation and Community:
    – One participant felt the event was a bit isolated and hoped for more alumni (former students) to join, which would make it more interesting.
    – A book called “Lost In Transition” by Kanna was highlighted as very interesting. It talks about expressions that are hard to translate into other languages. One student plans to read it before going to Australia.

Thank you for your presentation!
