Aiming to become a “family doctor” for the community needs.

Currently in his second year as a medical resident, Yusuke Kanakubo is striving to become a “family doctor.” This time, we spoke with Mr. Kanakubo, who has completed the Kumon English learning materials and participated in the Kumon English Immersion Camp, to hear about his experiences.

When I was in sixth grade, thanks to my Kumon teacher’s recommendation, I participated in the English Immersion Camp* that Kumon holds every summer. This camp is designed for elementary school students to live together and deepen their understanding of different cultures while communicating in English with camp leaders from around the world. However, I was extremely shy, and being away from my parents for an extended period for the first time made me feel lonely—I cried often during the camp. Even so, the camp leaders, who were also international students, supported me, and I managed to get through the camp. What I learned then was: “If you try to communicate, people will listen,” and “If you make an effort, you can somehow communicate in English.”
